Electronic meetings enabled

Dec 21, 2021 | COVID-19, Governance

Electronic meetings enabled

Effective December 20, 2021, the Province extended strata corporations’ ability to hold electronic strata meetings, without a strata bylaw authorizing this, until December 31, 2022 (at the latest).

The ability to hold meetings or hearings using telephone conference calls or an online application, such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams, helps strata corporations comply with the orders and recommendations of B.C.’s Provincial Health Officer.

What “December 31, 2022 at the latest” means: the authority allowing electronic meetings for strata corporations could be ended by the Provincial Legislature before December 31, 2022. To maintain the ability to hold electronic meetings, strata corporations are encouraged to adopt a strata bylaw authorizing electronic meetings, as allowed under section 49 of the Strata Property Act.
