The City of Kelowna Fire Department announced today that they will be suspending enforcement of the statutory requirement for strata corporations and landlords to inspect and test in-suite fire safety devices. But, the Fire Department will require that if a strata or building does not complete this ordinarily mandatory testing, that a plan must be put in place to address the of non-compliance at the earliest opportunity while following all current COVID-19 precautions.
The Fire Department recommends that residents be education on testing smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, changing batteries on devices twice per year, and other general best practices for fire safety.
